It Ain’t Fair

We ask for something.

For a light to turn on.
For a spark.
For something
that makes us feel different,
that gives our lives a sense.
A meaning.

But we are never willing
to give love a chance
to prove us wrong
to give us hope.

We are all too afraid for that.

(However you keep swiping right)

And it ain’t fair.
or maybe it is fair
to her,
to him,
to both of you.
But it ain’t fair to love.

We are all too afraid
to let someone enter
our dumb little hearts.
Full of unknown love.
Full of nothing.
Full of emptiness.

(Is there life without love?)

You think you are too strong,
and you’ll never put those guns down huh?
You think you’ll never need more than that.

You think you,
loving yourself,
is all you need.

Prepare tea,
read, go to a tennis match,
watch it front row.

(I only need this Dom P baby)

You believe
you can keep playing
with the fireworks at work.

Go to a date,
play with the food,
ask for it to go.
But make sure to be careful,
never to mislead anyone,
because she is way too sweet.

Or way too young.

Or way too naive.

But never enough for you or me.

She’ll have to know
she’ll have to be:
twice as good
three times as smart
four times as beautiful.

But never enough.

And I’m here just to remind you,
mi amigo, that:

You might go way beyond her years,
but at least she knows,
everything in this world
has a reason or a purpose.

Life is meant to be lived.
Money is meant to be spent.
Time to be used or even wasted.
But love, love can only be experienced.
