I still don’t understand why some people believe there is no happiness without a significant other. I don’t get why everything has to be about falling in love. But I know for sure that I don’t need someone, besides my own self, in order to be happy. I decide to be happy every day and that is exactly what life is about. At least for me. Why do we keep expecting things to come to make us happy, when we have all the tools in our hands? Life is now. Life is not tomorrow. Life is not your next hook up or your actual boyfriend. Stop worrying about that and instead use that energy to work in your own projects. Use that energy to be courageous enough to reinvent yourself everyday. Use that energy to help others and, in the meanwhile, help yourself.

Don’t take me wrong; I could use somebody’s company. I am very capable of loving. I’ve learned how to love, but I don’t need you.

This is an open letter to my next lover. That person that will be a reason to smile, but not my only reason to smile. That person that will understand me and love me. That person with who I will share my selfishness, but also all the love and good energy I have inside of me.

Dear you,

I don’t need you, simple, but I want to be with you. It’s a decision I made, not something I need in order to survive. If you leave, you will take a part of me, but you will never take my essence away. You will never own me. My heart is not yours, even though I can share it with you. The same way I will share my thoughts and my passions. Feel lucky, because those are worth it. Those are what make me who I am. Never think I’m perfect, because I’m not. But you have a girl that at least works towards that. You have a girl that wants to be better and that struggles every day in order to achieve her dreams. You have a dreamer, you have an idealist, and you have someone who believes in herself. You have a girl that wants to change the world, but that also knows she can’t do it by herself. You have a girl that wants you to be better as well. You have someone that loves you for who you are, but that will encourage you to be better.

Do not trap me. Do not try to change me. Love me. But love me for who I am, never for who you want me to be.

Kiss me. But only kiss me with respect. As for with this mouth is that I transform my thoughts into words and with my words I fight for what I want, I defend what I believe in. With this mouth I scream for justice and freedom.

Love me; because you can love a thousand people more. But I’ve decided to love you.
